Motivation Faerie!

School starts very soon. The motivation faerie visited me.

I take way too long to draw. This was supposed to be a quite sketch to get me warmed up for some OTHER art I wanted to work on. :/ But I tried new things and learned new things. I think this is the first time I’ve gone from sketch to finished piece completely in Photoshop and gotten something so polished. I’ve got a lot to learn about digital art but I know I wouldn’t have been able to do this last September. Which is very encouraging.

Blah. Composition. I think I was originally going to put some text on the left side. Maybe it’ll come in handy sometime, that big blah empty space…

The Labyrinth Bookstore is visiting my school this week, as it does periodically throughout the year. Looking at the beautiful artbooks and sketchbooks and everything they bring is so addicting. I always go and drool over the lovelies (books) but I hardly ever buy anything because the prices are a bit steep. Sometimes you can find a good price and usually the Labyrinth price is the same price as is printed on the book. But mostly it’s a great place to go find a book you want and then see if Amazon has a copy. But the good thing about Labyrinth is that you KNOW the book is there, you can touch it, see it first hand and if you buy you, you can bring it home with you, no waiting. And waiting is sometimes a bad idea, especially if the book you’re coveting is older, imported, rare or the last copy they have. [I learned this the last time Labyrinth was here and decided to look up a book online instead of buy it. The book was out of print and way more expensive online plus there were so many versions and I didn't know what the difference was between them to be able to choose the one I wanted.] So when I was passing Labyrinth’s mini-bookstore the other day and I saw this book, I knew I couldn’t let it be “The one that got away”.

It’s a book of Disney Princesses drawn by different artists in different styles and I love it. I hugged it all the way home and I keep it on display on top of my bookshelf near my work area. It inspired the little doodle I did in class yesterday.

*Note, just in case: I do not own any of the Disney Princesses and they are all copyright to their respected people. I also did not draw any of the images in the last two pictures though I DID draw the image at the top of the post. So please don’t steal that. Well, or any art by me.

I’ve started re-watching the Harry Potter movies, sort of in order. I didn’t really like the 2nd book or movie so I skipped it. But then I decided to re-read the series because 1) it’s good and b) I think I missed some things the first time around as most of the time it seemed to be a race amongst my friends to see who could finish the latest book first. So I’m currently reading the 2nd book. Also, I’m killing time until August when the last book of the Hunger Games series comes out. (Speaking of which, I’ve got a few Katniss pictures lying around waiting to be edited and made pretty.)

Is there a spell to pick up things you've dropped? Probably. And I'll bet she knows it.

I’m thinking I might add a background to this picture in the next few days. But I’m thinking it also looks nice as it is. I’m trying out new things in PS to try and get more comfortable with it. So far so good. Making loose pieces of paper look believable and interesting is harder than it seems.

I recently scanned a bunch of things so I’m gong to post a few new pics in the coming days. Some I want to fiddle with in Photoshop first though

Today I fiddled with this sketch influenced by many hours reading the comics on PENNY ARCADE. And, not wanting to draw myself I drew Anthony. Then coloured it and did some cool stuff and wanted to do more but I had been working on this for too long and needed to stop. And eat. And get the things I had meant to get done done.

Some gouache paintings for painting class. This is two projects ago. I’m a little behind on posting…

I was trying different styles, different techniques, different colour schemes, etc. I also did a large painting of a sky (these are small thumbnails, 4×6) but it’s in the display case at school at the moment. I got an A on this project which I’m very happy with.

Some hands and feet! Mine, naturally. Drawn from life (and with the help of a mirror when needed).

I’m pretty proud of these too. The scans are not as good as the originals but did the job fine. I got an A! i was so happy and relieved! I worked really hard on these.

Here’s my triclops (?) completed and ready to be handed in. I think she’s wonderful and adorable. I wish she had a name. And I nicknamed her best friend “Teddy” because that’s a common teddy bear name -except he’s not a teddy bear at all so it would be an uncommon name in this case. I liked the idea that what’s normal to us would be weird in her monster-world.

I hope I can share more about her someday.

Also, someday I hope to figure out how this blog works. Again, both pictures are the same, if you’re wondering. *sigh*…

Batman Girls

Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn from the Batman Animated series which I’ve been watching lately. Harley Quinn is really and easy to draw. I think this comes closest to any sort of style I have since the characters are really easy for me to figure out. I don’t know if I have a style though. I’d like to really play around with this in photoshop. (I just installed my Abobe mastersuit collection, yay!)

Ok, I’m not sure how I did this thing down here but it seems to be a better way to upload a bunch of photos. There are two batmans, they’re exactly the same I just don’t know how to delete stuff. I’m gonna just leave it like this for now. By the way, the Batman sketch is just a litle sketch. I don’t usually draw guys, especially muscly comic book guys so it’s not perfect but I was pretty proud of it.

And that’s gonna be it for today. I mean tonight. I mean this morning.
